Tweety Twenty

The sun is setting as I'm writing this post and the sunlight peaking through my window blinds is such a lovely sight. This year I couldn't ask for a better birthday celebration. I turned 20 on the 20th, which I found amusing after a friend pointed it out. I'm not one to look forward to birthdays as it never turns out fun and most of the time, just disappointing that I'm growing older, slowly moving towards adulthood. This year, I don't even know how to express the joy I am still feeling right now. It's been a few years now since anyone has really gotten me a gift for my birthday except for my family, boyfriend and close friend Claire. This year, two days before my birthday, I received a gift from two of my classmates. I was in shock (the good kind of course). I was extremely happy. By now you might be thinking, maybe its because I don't have many friends which is why I don't receive gifts. That is the case and also, I believe is because of my attitude back in school that caused it. I'm constantly trying to fix myself, to become a better person than I was. I know I have a lot more to go, but it is after all better to be in progress than have no progress at all.
Anyways, the day before my birthday, I had the most delightful surprise. We were in class as usual on a Wednesday morning, tired, drained and stressed out. Out of the blue someone switches the light off and everyone starts singing 'happy birthday'. I had the most confused face because I really did not expect it at all. I was baffled! In my head I was thinking 'Why didn't anyone inform me that we're celebrating Chai Ying's birthday in advance?!'. Then it hit me after about 30 seconds into the song that this surprise was for me. It was so thoughtful of my classmates to not only come up with a birthday surprise but also remembered that I actually like tweety bird (yes they got me a tweety bird design cake and balloon). I was so flattered and overjoyed really. It was the best day I had in college.

On the day of my birthday, I made plans with Kieran to just have a nice day out indulging in good food and shopping. You see, I'm not in a way a 'normal' girl. I don't emphasise on gifts, flowers or expensive items. I didn't expect what was to come next. I was running late, trying to fix my makeup while Kieran was downstairs waiting for me, my grandma just constantly shouting for me to go downstairs but I wasn't ready. After a few minutes as I was about done, Kieran just appeared in front of my room door holding a bouquet of white roses. I was speechless. I definitely didn't see that one coming. I was overwhelmed with emotions I didn't know whether to cry and scream in joy. The rest of the day was smooth and had me feeling so blessed for all that has happened for my birthday. I also received another tweety bird birthday cake from my parents. In case you're wondering, my family used to think I look like tweety bird because I had an unusual flat nose that they all thought was amusing and funny. I couldn't have asked for more. This was by far, my favourite birthday celebration without a doubt. Thank you to everyone who wished me, I really appreciate it. Also, a big thanks to my classmates (if you're reading this) for the surprise and the gift that I never expected. Until here, I hope all of you are well and excuse me for this lengthy, wordy post Nx.
